Dr. Radice's Statement on the Loss of Kitty Carlisle Hart (1910 – 2007)

Image of Kitty Carlisle hartWASHINGTON (April 18, 2007)-- Kitty Carlisle Hart was a gifted entertainer and committed arts advocate. “Mrs. Hart, Kitty to all, had time for everyone. She was a personal inspiration and was enormously kind to me. This is a profound loss for our nation,” said Anne-Imelda Radice, Ph.D., director of the Institute.

Mrs. Hart received the National Medal of Arts from the first President Bush in 1991 and served for 20 years on the New York State Council on the Arts. When not performing on Broadway, television or film, Mrs. Hart served as an honorary trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, amongst her many other advisory and volunteer commitments. Mrs. Hart will be greatly missed.

The Institute of Museum and Library Services sends deepest condolences to Mrs. Hart’s family and friends.
