Description

The Sight and Hearing Association (SHA) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to detect vision and hearing problems before the age of six, while many problems are still treatable. SHA is dedicated to preventing the needless loss of vision and hearing through the development of effective screening, education, and research programs. Projects include the Preschool Screening Program, which helps detect vision and hearing problems of preschoolers; and community health fairs. Another SHA’s project is the Minnesota Eye Injury Registry (MEIR), which collects population-based data to document eye injury demographics, type and severity of injuries, and health outcomes. The purpose of MEIR is twofold: to collect data on eye injuries in order to develop more focused prevention programs and to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment procedures. The Association works toward the prevention of, rather than the adaptation to, vision and hearing loss.
