As part of the Immediate Office of the Secretary, the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs (IGA)'s mission is to facilitate communication regarding Health and Human Services (HHS) initiatives as they relate to state, local, and tribal governments. IGA is the Departmental liaison to state, local, and tribal governments, and serves the dual role of representing the state, local, and tribal perspective in the federal policymaking process as well as clarifying the federal perspective to these important HHS partners. IGA also has oversight of the ten HHS Regional Offices located throughout the country.
