The National Gaucher Foundation (NGF), founded in 1984, is a nonprofit organization whose primary objective is to help in finding a cure and viable treatment program for Gaucher's Disease (GD). NGF also attempts to increase public awareness of this genetic disorder of lipid metabolism affecting an estimated 20,000 people in the United States, primarily Jews of eastern European origin. NGF helps individuals and families affected by GD and also can help with medical referrals. The Foundation funds research on GD and also operates a family support network to aid those in need of information and assistance. It is funded primarily through grants and contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
Serial publication: Gaucher's Disease Registry Newsletter, quarterly--information on recent research; chapter programs; a medical column; available through the Gaucher's Disease Registry.
