Veterans' Affairs

We owe a tremendous debt to the men and women who have shown their commitment and sacrifice by bravely wearing the uniform of our military forces. I am working hard in Congress to ensure that we honor that commitment by providing the highest possible quality of care to every veteran.

As a Member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee from 2007-08, I helped craft legislation that led to the largest increase in funding for the Veteran's Administration (VA) in history, a new and improved GI bill, mental health services for veterans and their families, and secured the authorization and funding for a new Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC) in Whiteside County

Even though I am no longer on the VA Committee, I am committed to continuing the work I started last Congress to:

  - Improve the quality and accessibility of mental health treatment for veterans;
  - Rebuild the VA's broken benefits system;
  - Combat veterans' homelessness;
  - Increase volunteer and service opportunities for veterans; and
  - Ensure sufficient, timely and predictable funding for veterans' health care
