The U.S. Army and its Soldiers accomplish their mission through strength — strength of character, strength of purpose, and strength of shared purpose. This strength is built on values and honed through training. It is sustained through protecting the healthy environment of Army training lands, installations, and local communities. Six installations, one team, and one individual received FY 2006 Secretary of the Army Environmental Awards for their achievements in environmental stewardship.

"The Army is a good steward of the environment, and we are committed to the long term sustainability of the natural resources in our care," said Tad Davis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Army for the Environment, Safety and Occupational Health. "As the winners of our environmental awards so aptly demonstrate, the Army uses innovation, dedication, and hard work to achieve a successful interaction of our military mission with sound environmental stewardship and community involvement."
