Statement of
U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek (D-FL)
Honoring the Life of Congresswoman Julia Carson (D-IN)

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek issued the following statement honoring the life of Congresswoman Julia Carson:

"Congresswoman Julia Carson was a trailblazer who broke down barriers before her and in so doing, opened doors of opportunities for generations after her. Her constituents and the people of Indiana are mourning a role model and leader. We in Congress are missing a colleague and friend. I spent time with Congresswoman Carson in her District and witnessed firsthand how she was admired and respected by her constituents. It is especially bittersweet that in this history making year when the CBC holds unprecedented power in Congress, we have mourned the passing of two of our finest Members, Chairwoman Juanita Millender-McDonald and Congresswoman Julia Carson. Their contributions to the CBC, to the U.S. Congress and to this country will be forever remembered."

U.S. Rep. Kendrick B. Meek represents the 17th Congressional District of Florida which includes parts of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. He serves as the lone Floridian on the House Committee on Ways and Means, and also serves on the House Committee on Armed Services.
