Folks across America are fed up and Taxed Enough Already (TEA). That’s why they’re hosting TEA parties across the nation. To help get you in that spirit, here’s a countdown:
Jack took to the floor this afternoon to discuss the latest spending boondoggle for House Democrats. What now, you ask? They’ve allocated $3 million for two of DC’s upper class neighborhoods - Adams Morgan and Georgetown - to install new bicycle racks and to purchase 400 new bicycles. Why is the federal government purchasing 400 new bicycles for two of DC’s poshest neighborhoods? House Democrats are intent on spending too much, borrowing too much and taxing too much.
The IRS has announced a free tax preparation session for folks in the Savannah area. As part of its “Super Saturday” campaign, the IRS is hosting free tax preparation services for those who make under $42,000 a year. This is also a chance for those who, regardless of income, have a tax issue or are unable to pay their tax bills. If the AIG bonuses weren’t enough, the House Ways and Means Committee revealed today that 13 firms which have recieved billions in taxpayer-funded bailouts owe back taxes totalling $220 million. According to the report, two of the firms owe more than $100 million a piece.
To make things even worse, “banks and other firms receiving federal money were required to sign contracts stating they had no unpaid taxes,” but the Treasury Department didn’t ask the firms to turn over their tax records.
A delegation from the City of Waycross was in town today to discuss the economic stimulus and other issues facing Southeast Georgia. Pictured here with Jack is Grants Coordinator Latasha Josey, City Manager Peter Pyrzenski, City Commissioner William D. Simmons, and City Engineer Frank Baugh.
Jack spoke on the floor today and highlighted the spending habits of House Democrats.
“This is the party of owe - they owe China, the owe their big union lobbyists, they owe our children and the future generations and oh my goodness, look how many o’s are in the 3.6 trillion dollars”
After pouring more than $60 million into Democrat campaign coffers last cycle, Big Labor got the first step in its payback last week with the introduction of Card Check legislation. The problem now is that the majority of Americans support the right to secret ballot elections and disagree with Card Check.
At a White House press conference today, President Obama and Treasury Secretary Geithner announced a program to inject $15 billion into the small business credit market. While Congressman Jack Kingston (R/GA-1) praised long-awaited attention to small business, he criticized the plan’s failure to address impending tax increases.
“This proposal is a step in the right direction but it’s only a step when small businesses have lost a mile in this economy,” Congressman Kingston said. “By my math, the $15 billion in aid announced today amounts to 2% of the $687 billion in tax increases unveiled in President Obama’s budget the lion’s share of which will fall on the shoulders of small businesses. In effect, for every dollar Washington takes away from small business, they’ll get a whopping two cents back.”
