Modularized software that systematically allows user to conduct industrial & commercial systems analysis to help evaluate options that could reduce the cost of owning, operating, and maintaining a facility; achieving energy conservation goals, and evaluate non-energy benefits. It could be used in a new and existing facility design, engineering, and specification preparation. It allows unlimited what-if case analysis of the following systems: centrifugal pumps, centrifugal compressors, fans and blowers, positive displacement compressors, and piping network. Other modules include: Energy Conservation Measure
(ECM), Life Cycle Costing, Non-Energy Benefits, Performance Charting, Utility, and Chemical/Physical Properties.

Expertise Required
: General knowledge of fluid flow application (pump, fan, blower, compressor, piping) and energy analysis helpful. No computer programming experience required.
Users
Full C-MAX 2.0 and Evaluation C-MAX 2.0 software: over 400. New Updated C-MAX release is version 2.2 (January 03, 2000).
Audience
Chemical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Plant Engineers, Utility Conservation Engineers, Energy Engineers, Consulting Engineers, Process & Project Engineers of E&C firms, Industrial Plants, Commercial Facilities, and Electrical Utilities.
Input
Fluid name and temperature and inlet/outlet equipment pressure drops, friction loss, and head for fluid system analysis. Users can specify pipe material characteristics, equipment characteristic curve, and costs for project, maintenance, utilities and non-energy benefits. Default chemical and physical properties for over 60 commonly used liquid, gas, and chemical compounds. Default pump, motor, adjustable speed drive equipment efficiencies. User enters data in Windows dialog boxes. Two types of User Interfaces ('Classic' and 'Tabbed' Input Forms).

Computer Platform
PC-compatible, 386 or higher processor, Windows 95, 98, NT 4.0, & Windows 2000 Operating systems. Network version is available.
Programming Language
Visual C++
Strengths
Provides a quick, easy, and accurate method for analyzing potential fluid flow system upgrades and new design. Graphical interface allows for visual feedback in System Input Forms. Allows for point-and-click selection. Special attention given to energy conservation and life cycle costing analysis. In-depth 1.2MB on-line help by topics, content, index, context sensitive and balloon help. A 200-page C-MAX Users Guide is available.
Weaknesses
: Does not provide flowsheet simulation and analysis. Limited piping network analysis.
