Cleveland Clinic Round Table

June 8, 2009

Since January of 2007, I’ve held more than 140 community roundtables, visiting all 88 Ohio counties talking with local leaders, workers, teachers, business owners, and health care professionals about ways to turn around the economy and help rebuild Ohio’s middle class.

As the Senate works to pass health care reform legislation, on June 8, 2009 I held another important roundtable discussion with fifteen physicians and administrator at the Cleveland Clinic.  Among the many health care issues that affect Ohioans, we talked about the need to reduce costs, increase quality outcomes, and invest in health care technology that cuts costly red-tape.

During the discussion, Dr. Bridget Duffy, Chief Experience Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, explained the clinic’s health navigation program to improve access to medical care for Ohioans.  The clinic hopes to expand this program to include nurse navigators and reduce hospital re-admissions that can save costs for patients and hospitals.

As Congress and the Obama Administration work to make health care affordable for all Americans, I’ll be sure that important initiatives occurring in Ohio are part of meaningful health care reform in the Senate.  I am confident that, working together, we can change policy in Washington and improve our communities in Ohio.
