Lamborn Fights Irresponsible Spending

Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05) today offered an amendment (included in the Republican Motion to Recommit) to the Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations Act for 2010, HR 3293, to eliminate $541 million from the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.  Democrats used a procedural motion to block the amendment from a vote.

“At a time when the American people are trying to make ends meet, Congress must get our fiscal house in order. Taxpayers expect and deserve fiscal restraint, especially when our current year budget deficit is approaching $2 n trillion. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has sources of funding outside of the federal government and I would like to see it fully funded through private dollars.” – Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

Lamborn also co-sponsored an amendment that would have cut spending in HR 3293 by ½ percent across the board. Democrats voted down the amendment, 229 -199.

He also co-sponsored an amendment by Congressman Mike Pence (R-IN), which would withhold funds from abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.  Planned Parenthood’s own annual report shows it received 34% of its $1.04 billion in revenue from government grants and contracts, and performed more than 305,000 abortions.

We cannot seriously talk about wanting to reduce the number of abortions in this country and then in the very same breath give tax payer money to abortionists. I believe life begins at conception and I cannot, in good conscience, support a bill of this nature that squanders taxpayer money to destroy the lives of women and their children.” – Doug Lamborn (CO-05)

The Democrats rejected this amendment, 183 to 247.
