USADF lAUNCHES NEW ACCORD WITH bURKINA FASO

Ambassador to the United States Attends Historical Signing

WASHINGTON - September 30, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. – September 30, 2008 – The United States African Development Foundation publicly announced the start of an economic and social development program in Burkina Faso today at their headquarters in Washington, D.C. Ambassador Paramanga Ernest Yonli attended the ceremony.

IUSADF Preisdent Lloyd Pierson, Ambassador Paramanga E. Yonli, and USADF Chairman Dr. John O. AgwunobiIn speaking about adding Burkina Faso to USADF’s portfolio, President Lloyd Pierson stated, “USADF is very excited and enthusiastic about Burkina Faso and the opportunity for our organization to have a strong positive impact.  We will begin programming on an expedited basis.”

USADF and the government of Burkina Faso signed a country accord to work jointly on the alleviation of poverty and the promotion of emerging entrepreneurs. Today’s event was an opportunity for both counties to seal the new partnership through the signing of the country accord.

During the event, Ambassador Yonli stated, “This is an important event and I am sure that the signing of this accord with strengthen the relationship between our two countries.”

USADF plans to begin reviewing proposals as early as October 2008. Regional Program Director for Burkina Faso Rama Bah stated, “There has been significant interest already from the field, especially from women’s groups and other marginalized populations.”

USADF’s new Board Members, who were sworn in earlier in the day, were also in attendance to welcome the Ambassador. The event was the first official action of USADF’s new Chairman, Dr. John O. Agwunobi.

The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) is a United States Government agency dedicated to expanding access to economic opportunity in Africa. Currently USADF operates in 18 African nations.  Over the past 25 years, USADF has directly funded nearly 1,100 African projects representing in excess of $150 million in support of African enterprises and local African communities.
