Each year I have the pleasure of nominating outstanding young men and women from the 21st District to four of the United States` military service academies. Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of July 1st of the year of admission to an academy:
AGE: Be between 17 and 23 years old.
CITIZENSHIP: Must be a U.S. citizen.
Applicants are carefully evaluated based on numerous qualifications. These include character, scholarship, leadership, physical fitness, medical fitness and motivation.
Interested students should request an information packet or contact my office in Kerrville in the spring of their junior year in high school to begin the application process.

I am now accepting nomination requests for the classes starting in the summer of 2010. The deadline for applications is October 30, 2009. For your convenience, you can download the information packet here and the academy application here. For students looking to find out more information regarding the academies, I annually host a Service Academy Day, which is typically held the first weekend in March in San Antonio.

NOTE: The US Coast Guard does not require a Congressional appointment. Appointments are considered solely on the basis of an annual nationwide competition.
