Congressman Lamborn on Board with the President's Energy Plan

Calls for the Majority to support plan to reduce gas prices, dependence on foreign oil

Washington, Jun 19, 2008 -

Congressman Doug Lamborn today threw his support behind the President's four-pronged approach to reducing gas prices and dependence on foreign oil.

“I agree with the President that Congress must take action to expand our domestic production now,” Lamborn stated.

“High gas prices continue to burden families across the country and in my district. Over the long-term, the President’s plan will drive prices down and give consumers a break at the pump. This plan will lower the gas prices in a huge way and allow us to move away from our excessive dependence on foreign oil.”

The President’s initiative calls for:

1)      Increasing access to the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS),

2)      Tapping into the extraordinary potential of oil shale,

3)      Permitting exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), and

4)      Expanding and enhancing our refinery capacity.

“I join President Bush in urging my Democratic colleagues to get on board with this plan to bring relief  at the pump,” Lamborn said.

Lamborn has a solid record of supporting and co-sponsoring legislation aimed at expanding the country’s domestic oil supply. A list of that legislation follows.

•           H.R. 3089, No More Excuses Energy Act of 2007

Reduces the price of gasoline by opening new American oil refineries; investing in diverse energy sources such as wind, nuclear, and clean coal-to-liquid technology; and making available more homegrown energy through environmentally sensitive exploration of the Arctic Energy Slope and America’s Deep-Sea Energy Reserves.

H.R. 2279, Expand American Refining Capacity at Closed Military Bases

Reduces the price of gasoline by streamlining the refinery application process and by requiring the President to open at least three closed military installations for the purpose of siting new and reliable American refineries.

•           H.R. 5656, To Repeal the Ban on Acquiring Alternative Fuels

Reduces the price of gasoline by allowing the federal government to procure advanced alternative fuels derived from diverse sources like oil shale, tar sands and coal-to-liquid technology.

•           H.R. 2493, Fuel Mandate Reduction Act of 2007

Reduces the price of gasoline by removing fuel blend requirements and onerous government mandates if they contribute to unaffordable gas prices.

•           H.R. 6107, American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act

Reduces the price of gasoline by opening the Arctic Energy Slope to environmentally sensitive American energy exploration.  Exploration would be limited to 0.01% of the Refuge, and revenue received from the new leases would be invested in a long-term alternative energy trust fund.

•           H.R. 6108, Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act of 2008
