Thursday, February 14, 2008
-Reverend Dr. Adolphus Lacey to Lead House of Reps Prayer Feb. 26th -

Washington, DC - U.S. Representative John Hall (D-NY19) announced today that he is sponsoring Reverend Dr. Adolphus C. Lacey of Peekskill, New York's Mount Olivet Baptist Church to serve as Guest Chaplain in the U.S. House of Representative on February 26th.

Each Member of Congress is allowed to invite one clergy member every two years from his or her district to serve as Guest Chaplain for the day.

"In addition to his pastoral duties at the church, Dr. Lacey is a devoted advocate for economic and racial equality and is actively involved throughout the community," said Congressman Hall. "My respect and admiration for Dr. Lacey's commitment as a pastor, professor and community leader led me to invite the Reverend to lead the day's prayer on February 26th."

As the Senior pastor at Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Dr. Lacey is affectionately known in the Peekskill community as the "People’s Pastor." He is currently the president of the Peekskill Area Pastors Association and a founding member of Cortland Taskforce on Diversity. He has also served as an adjunct professor in the Philosophy and Religious Studies Department at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY.

"Reverend Dr. Lacey has served as a strong, selfless and open leader who has helped bring together members of all faiths to unify the Peekskill community," said Congressman Hall.  "I’m privileged to sponsor Reverend Dr. Lacey as an honored Guest Chaplain in the U.S. House of Representatives next month."

In November, after a cross burning crime occurred in the Town of Cortlandt, Reverend Dr. Lacey was instrumental in organizing a widely attended public forum on diversity and hate bias crime prevention to foster a community dialogue. Congressman Hall participated and spoke at the forum.

On February 26th, Congressman Hall will give a brief introduction before welcoming Reverend Dr. Lacey to lead the day’s prayer in the U.S. House of Representatives.
