- $141,000 to Enhance Substance Abuse Treatment for Young People at Phoenix House in Final Spending Bill Sent to President-

Washington, DC – Federal funding that U.S. Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) secured to help Phoenix House in the Town of Yorktown to expand substance abuse treatment for young people is included in the final spending bill that Congress sent to the President this week to become law.  The $141,000 secured by Congressman Hall for the substance abuse treatment center has survived all rounds of House-Senate appropriations negotiations and was included in the final version of the funding bill passed by both the House and the Senate this week.  The President is expected to sign the legislation in the coming days.

"Substance abuse continues to be a problem among teenagers," said Hall.  “The treatment programs offered by Phoenix House are critical to help young people and their families overcome addiction while continuing their education.  This funding will allow Phoenix House to improve its treatment and outreach so that more teens can get the help they need."

Phoenix House opened in 1981 as a residential adolescent treatment facility to meet both the substance abuse treatment and academic needs of young people from Westchester County and other New York communities.  This federal funding will allow Phoenix House to serve a greater number of teenagers in the Hudson Valley.

The additional resources will help Phoenix House intervene more promptly, conduct screenings and assessments in a number of off-site locations, and link Phoenix House residents to community services.
