Washington, Aug 9, 2007 -  Today, US Representative Scott Garrett announced that the Veterans Memorial Home in Paramus, NJ received $590,362 in federal funding to make important safety improvements to its fire alarm system. Garrett secured the funds last October through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs State Home Construction Grants Program.

In response to this announcement, Rep. Garrett stated, “I am honored to work with the Paramus Veterans Home to make this facility the safest and best home for these brave veterans who sacrificed their safety and comfort to protect our nation. The least we can do is work to ensure that they reside in suitably equipped homes in their golden years.”

Garrett is currently working to obtain funds for the coming fiscal year for the Paramus Veterans Home for the expansion and renovation of the day room, where residents meet with family and friends and gather for special events and activities. “The day room is the part of the Paramus Veterans Home that really makes this a home as opposed to an institution. And, I’m proud to work hand-in-hand with the veterans community and the Department of Veterans Affairs toward funding for this project.”

In June 2006, Garrett brought Secretary of Veterans Affairs Jim Nicholson to tour the Paramus Home where he was able to meet with local veterans and learn more about the importance of these projects to the lives of the veteran-residents.
