Hall to Talk with High School Seniors About Cutting High College Costs
Thursday, September 20, 2007
Goshen, NY – U.S. Rep. John Hall (D-NY19) will meet with seniors at John Jay High School, and later at Cornwall Central High School tomorrow afternoon to talk about one of the biggest challenges they face this year – preparing to attend college in September and figuring out how to pay for it.  College tuition has escalated more than 20% over the last five years, while middle class incomes in New York rose by less than 1%.

“College is becoming unbearably expensive for far too many students and their families,” said Hall, who formerly was President of the Saugerties School Board in Ulster County.  “This Congress knew something had to be done, and one of our first priorities was to pass legislation that will be the biggest boost since the GI Bill in paying for college.”

Hall will meet with seniors in the Economics class, starting at 12:15 pm at Cornwall Central High School in New Windsor, NY, to tell them about the new law that could help them cut their college costs and to hear from them about their college plans and their concerns.

The legislation, known as “The College Cost Reduction Act,” has been approved by both Houses of Congress and has been sent to the President to sign into law.
