On July 17th, Sen. Brown held a hearing of the subcommittee on Economic Policy as part of the Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. The week of July 6-15, Sen. Brown, as a member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, worked to mark-up the proposed health care reform legislation.

As Congress weighs sweeping energy and climate legislation, Sen. Brown announced a new bill that would create a $30 billion revolving loan program to help auto suppliers and other small and mid-sized manufacturers retool for the clean energy industry. Brown’s bill would also expand the focus of the Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) to include support for manufacturers transitioning to the clean energy economy.
Sen. Brown visited the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO). While there, he announced new legislation that would expand the use of municipal solid waste as a source of clean energy.

Sen. Brown, chairman of the U.S. Senate Banking Subcommittee on Economic Policy, invited manufacturing and business leaders for a hearing entitled “Manufacturing and the Credit Crisis.” The hearing examined the state of manufacturing amid poor economic conditions, and sought to discuss how Congress can strengthen Ohio and the nation’s manufacturing base.
