H1N1 2009 Influenza Virus Infection during Pregnancy in the USA (Lancet) (8/10/09)
The article describes the cases of 34 pregnant women who contracted novel H1N1 influenza virus infection in the United States during the first month of the outbreak (mid-April–mid-May 2009). Thirty-one had confirmed infections, and three were probable infections. This report was published in Lancet online ahead of print publication for July 29, 2009.

CDC Advisors Make Recommendations for Use of Vaccine against Novel H1N1 (8/10/09)
CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices developed recommendations on who should receive vaccine against novel influenza A (H1N1) when it becomes available. Five key priority populations include pregnant women and people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age.

Sexual and Reproductive Health of Persons Aged 10-24 Years, 2002-2007 (8/10/09)
Data were compiled from the National Vital Statistics System and multiple surveys and surveillance systems that monitor sexual and reproductive health outcomes into a single reference report that makes this information more easily accessible. This report addresses three primary topics: 1) current levels of risk behavior and health outcomes; 2) disparities by sex, age, race/ethnicity, and geographic residence; and 3) trends over time.

National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network (8/10/09)
The National Environmental Public Health Tracking Network is a system of integrated health, exposure, and hazard information and data from a variety of national, state, and city sources. On the Tracking Network, you can explore information and view maps, tables, and charts about health and environment across the country. The Tracking Network includes information on cancers, birth defects, and reproductive and birth outcomes.

Differences in Prevalence of Obesity among Black, White, and Hispanic Adults- United States, 2006-2008 (8/10/09)
During 2006-2008, the age-adjusted estimated prevalence of obesity overall was 25.6 percent among non-Hispanic blacks, non-Hispanic whites, and Hispanics. Non-Hispanic black women had the greatest prevalence (39.2 percent), followed by non-Hispanic black men (31.6 percent), Hispanic women (29.4 percent), Hispanic men (27.8 percent), non-Hispanic white men (25.4 percent), and non-Hispanic white women (21.8 percent).

Aging Differently: Physical Limitations among Adults Aged 50 Years and Over: United States, 2001-2007 (8/10/09)
Many adults experience increases in physical limitations with age. For each age and race group, women are more likely than men of the same age to have one or more physical limitations. Differences between men and women in the prevalence of one or more physical limitations widens with increasing age.

Cases of HIV Infection and AIDS in the United States and Dependent Areas, by Race/Ethnicity, 2003-2007 PDF (8/10/09)
In this report, CDC presents estimated numbers of cases of HIV infection, including cases of HIV infection that progressed to AIDS. Of females with AIDS, 64 percent were among black/African American women, and nearly equal percentages were among Hispanic/Latino women (18 percent) or white women (17 percent).

The 2009 Breastfeeding Report Card shows how breastfeeding is being protected, promoted, and supported in each state. It allows comparisons across states, making it an important tool for increasing breastfeeding nationwide.

WISEWOMAN Highlighted in Success Story Report (HHS)
HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius released the second in a series of health care success story reports that document innovative programs and initiatives that can serve as models for a reformed American health care system. The report highlights the Nebraska WISEWOMAN program. WISEWOMAN is a community intervention program funded by CDC that helps prevent heart disease and stroke by providing screenings and counseling for low-income women.
