Rep. Scott Garrett Hails Today’s Senate Immigration Vote
Washington,
Jun 28, 2007 -
Today, U.S. Rep. Scott Garrett (R-NJ) issued the following statement about the recent defeat of the Senate amnesty bill.
“I’m pleased that the Senate amnesty bill failed with a 46-53 vote today. I’m glad the Senate got to the bottom line, they realized that their bill failed to ensure operational control of our borders, compromising our nation’s security. It also rewarded amnesty to millions who are currently living in our country illegally. Rather than punishing them for breaking our nation’s laws, their bill would have granted them immediate legal status. It jumped them to the front of the line where many immigrants who spent many years and many dollars to legally be part of the American dream are currently waiting. Today’s vote proves that the American people, who are tired of weak immigration proposals, have been heard. Our nation needs a strong immigration plan with strong border security that does not provide amnesty. ”
