Crowley is Combating Global Warming
- Voted in 2007 to reduce carbon emissions by increasing vehicle efficiency standards (also known as “CAFE standards”) to 35 miles per gallon in 2020.
- Cosponsored the Safe Climate Act, aproposal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by setting yearly targets through 2050.
- Supporter of increased federal investment in climate change research.
- Cosponsor of the Clean Smokestacks Act to update current national power plant emissions standards and extend them to cover all plants throughout the United States, including old plants in Queens and the Bronx.
- Supported Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2020 proposal to upgrade energy infrastructure and launch city-wide and community-specific plans to protect against climate change.

Crowley on Preserving our Wilderness
- Strongly opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) and supports proposals such as the Arctic Wilderness Act to ensure that no oil or gas exploration or drilling will occur in this area.
- Opposed to allowing more offshore coastal drilling leases, which would mean more anti-environmental oil and gas drilling, while current leases are not fully used.
- Supports the Forest Service's Roadless Area Conservation Rule to protect our forests and Federal lands from overdevelopment.
- Secured Federal funding for the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service to help fight the vicious tree-eating Asian Longhorned Beetle that is destroying trees in New York City.
- Successfully urged the Treasury Department to grant the New York Botanical Garden a license to travel to Cuba for conservation research.
Crowley is Fighting for Clean Air
- Working to reduce air pollution issues from LaGuardia Airport, benefitting the people of Queens and the Bronx who suffer from the environmental effects of having an airport in their backyard.
- Secured federal funding for an environmental shield along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway to reduce pollution, noise, glare, and litter for nearby residents.
- Introduced legislation establishing an incentive program for airport authorities to phase in natural gas buses to replace the current high emission buses.
- Obtained Federal funding to replace diesel-burning MTA buses with high-tech, low-polluting buses that help reduce dangerous emissions.
Crowley Ensures our Water Quality and Infrastructure
- Cosponsor of the Clean Water Restoration Act, a proposal to reinstate Clean Water Act protections for wetlands.
- As a member of the Long Island Sound caucus, Joe is fighting for legislation to clean up the Sound and maintain the environmental standards that protect America's coastlines.
- Brought in federal experts from the Army Corps of Engineers to New York to clean up local waterways, including Flushing Bay and Creek, College Point, and the Bronx River.
- Working to preserve Federal investment in beach replenishment and remediation of Orchard Beach, ensuring that this urban oasis remains available for future generations.
- Ensuring better flood control infrastructure is in place, protecting hard-hit communities such as Silver Beach and Woodside.
Crowley on Protecting and Creating New Greenspace
- As a champion of PlaNYC 2030, has worked to create more park spaces and clean up contaminated areas or “brownfields.”
- Joe worked with Keyspan and local officials to ensure that the old Keyspan gas tanks site will be made a public park and a tribute to the Vietnam Veterans of Queens.
- Ensured a continued investment in the Soundview Connection Greenway that runs from Bruckner Boulevard to Soundview Park, which will help revitalize many areas of the Bronx aas part of the Bronx River Greenway.
