Lamborn Announces $1 Million for Wildfire Mitigation Project to Aid in Protecting Communities

Today, Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-5) announced that the City of Colorado Springs Wildfire Mitigation Project has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.

“This federal funding will go a long way in assisting the local fire department in educating area residents with information to reduce fire risk and provide additional protection during the higher risk seasons in the dry areas Coloradans face. I’m pleased to know that Colorado tax dollars are being used here at home to aid in this critically important area.” - Rep. Doug Lamborn (CO-5)

This grant ($1,334,171.96 Total Cost; $1,000,626.16 Federal Share) will enable the City of Colorado Springs Wildfire Mitigation Project to fund their risk reduction and homeowner educational project. The project is designed to reduce the fuel load by removing dead vegetation and creating a horizontal separation of fuels through thinning trees and brushes.
