Lamborn Delivers Final Funding for Fountain Creek Study

$150,000 To Complete Critical Watershed Study

Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colorado Springs) today announced that he has secured $150,000 in federal funding to complete the Fountain Creek Watershed study being conducted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2008 Energy and Water Appropriations bill.

“This project is fully authorized and has received federal funding in previous years,” said Rep. Lamborn. This funding will help complete a critically important water study impacting a large section of the 5th Congressional District. The local participants have contributed all of the funding legally allowed for this project and this federal funding will allow this study to be completed. I’m pleased to help allow this necessary study to be finished.”

The Fountain Creek Watershed drains a 927 square mile area in the central front range of Colorado. It is bounded by Pikes Peak to the west, a small divide east of Colorado Springs, the Palmer Divide in the north and the Arkansas River basin in Pueblo County to the south. Fountain Creek drains into the Arkansas River at Pueblo.

The Fountain Creek Watershed Study directly impacts and involves Teller, Pueblo and El Paso Counties, and eight municipalities within those counties. There were over 500,000 people living within the watershed according to the 2000 census. Water from the watershed meets municipal, industrial and agricultural uses.
