Lamborn Applauds Revision of Proposed Overreaching Regulations

Rep. Doug Lamborn (Colorado Springs) today issued the following statement regarding the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) announcement that it would modify its recent Explosives Proposed Rule:

“I am pleased that OSHA recognizes the unfair and unnecessary burden that these restrictions would have placed on small arms retailers and manufacturers. While I understand that the proposal was intended to improve the safety of those working with explosives, I believe it is imperative that all consequences, intentional and unintentional, be closely studied when the government places operational regulations on an industry.

In this case, compliance with the proposed rules, parts of which are completely unfeasible, would have cost manufactures over $100 million and potentially aggravated the current ammunition shortage facing our military.

OSHA’s revision of the proposal is a responsible reaction and I hope that the next draft will have a more reasonable approach that takes issues such as the size and location of retailers and manufacturers into account.”
