“Last night was an historic victory for House Republicans and the American people. I am honored that I was part of it.

In an unprecedented disregard for the legislative process, the Democrats attempted to hide earmarks until after the House had approved the appropriations bills to which they were attached. Less than a year ago these same members campaigned on promises to clean up Congress by making the earmark process more transparent—such blatant hypocrisy is utterly unacceptable.

I am proud of my fellow Republicans. We worked diligently as a minority to fight against an abuse of power by the majority and prevailed. Had we not blocked the Democratic leadership from achieving their goal, the American public would have been forced to pay for egregious spending projects.

The American people deserve a fiscally responsible, transparent government. Despite the Democrats’ efforts to the contrary, I and my Republican colleagues, through our actions last night, ensured that they receive one.”
