OLAW Institutional Officials (IOs) Outreach
OLAW IO Outreach is a free online seminar series to help Institutional Officials (IOs) explore their responsibilities in the oversight of PHS-funded research that involves the use of live vertebrate animals.
Who may attend?
The series is tailored to IOs at PHS-Assured institutions. IOs may invite selected guests but access will be limited to one registration per institution.
What hardware and software will I need to attend the seminars?
The seminars will be presented using interactive meeting software licensed to NIH. You will not need to have the meeting software on your computer. To participate, you will need a computer with internet access. The computer must have Flash software installed; most computers do.
How will the seminars work?
About 15 to 30 minutes before the start of the seminar, registered attendees should enter the meeting URL into their computer browser and log in using your email address and password provided following registration. You will be greeted with a welcome slide containing additional information and audio to allow you to adjust your computers volume as needed. The connections are made at no cost to the attendee.
Seminars will include a 20 minute presentation followed by 30 minutes for questions and answers. Participants are encouraged to submit questions and suggestions for future topics by email to OLAW at olaw@od.nih.gov.
How can I register?
To register for the seminar series, go online to http://fmp-8.cit.nih.gov/olaw/io.html. Registration is free but attendance capacity is limited, so register early. For questions email or call OLAW at 301-496-7163.
Susan Silk, M.S., Director of the Division of Policy and Education, OLAW; Jerry Collins, Ph.D., IACUC Chair, Yale University; and Ernest Prentice, Ph.D., Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University of Nebraska Medical Center developed the OLAW IO Outreach online seminars. Susan, Jerry and Ernie will moderate the seminars. Each seminar will feature a presentation by nationally recognized subject matter experts.
When will the seminars be held?
Seminars will be held quarterly. All of the seminars will be held on Thursdays starting at noon Eastern time (11AM Central, 10AM Mountain, 9AM Pacific).
