D-Gen PRO

D-Gen PRO logo.

Screening tool designed for economic analysis and determining economic feasibility of distributed power generation. D-Gen PRO quickly and easily evaluates the cost-effective application of on-site and distributed power generation. D-Gen PRO uses climate data from over 700 locations and it has a capability of creating new climate locations. D Gen PRO quickly performs economic analysis of life cycle cost savings, payback, internal rate of return, average cost of on-site generated kWh, monthly utility costs. D Gen PRO consists of improved on-site generation modeling capabilities (weekend operation, part load efficiency, thermal recovery, automatic generator deployment) and enhanced rate-handling capability. Keywords

distributed power generation, on-site power generation, CHP, BCHP

Validation/Testing

N/A

Expertise Required

knowledge of power generation or on-site power generation technology. Knowledge of buildings energy analysis is helpful. No computer programming experience is required.

Users

Over 100 users worldwide.

Audience

Power generation consultants, equipment marketers, system designers and operators, corporate facility managers, gas and electric utility marketers, ESCO engineers and marketers, energy marketers, energy service companies, and distributed power generation equipment manufacturers.

Input

General project information, e.g. facility information, utility rates, generator description, economic assumptions.

Output

Produces easy-to-understand sales and marketing reports and graphs on the economic feasibility of on-site and cogeneration, including waste heat analysis. Graphs can be viewed by the monthly energy consumption with and without the generators in place. The user can view or print annual performance report containing all the project, facility, and generator information as well as modified energy use numbers and the economic evaluation. The user can also create a custom reports by choosing a desired sub-report from a list provided by the software.

Computer Platform

with CD-ROM drive operating in 32-bit Windows environment (95, 98, NT, XP, and 2000).

Programming Language

Visual Basic

Strengths

Features enhanced User Guidance Wizards, which provide additional guidance to new users. The first time the application is run, the user will be guided step by step through a distributed generation project analysis.

Weaknesses

Modeling heat recovery to building thermally activated cooling systems (absorption, desiccants) requires separate data pre-processing.
