Performs transient simulations of HVAC plants with short time steps. SIMBAD Building and HVAC Toolbox is the first HVAC toolbox for the MATLAB/Simulink environment. The toolbox provides a large number of ready to use HVAC models and related utilities to perform dynamic simulation of HVAC plants. This toolbox, in connection with other existing toolboxes (Neural network, fuzzy logic, optimisation...), offers a powerful and efficient tool for design and test of controllers.

Building geometry (or use of representative buildings), thermal characteristics, internal loads and schedules, heating and cooling equipment and system characteristics, use of included weather data or imported in ASCII format.

User-definable. Data can be visualised online (graphically), or stored in files to be retrieved for post processing in spreadsheets.

PC (Pentium) and requires MATLAB 6.1 and Simulink 4.0 or above. These licences are to be purchased from The Mathworks Inc.

Strengths
The tool is dedicated to the development and test of control algorithms or of prototypes of controllers linked to the PC via a data acquisition system (real time simulation).
Weaknesses
The toolbox does not currently offer a fully multi-zone building (planned for version 4.0).

Full price of SIMBAD Toolbox: 3000 Euro. Research centres and universities have a 50% discount. Email support is provided for the use of the Toolbox. Training sessions can be organised at the request of users. Updates of the toolbox are provided for free up to version 4.0.
