EE4 CBIP

EE4 CBIP logo.

Designed to demonstrate a building's compliance to the requirements of the Commercial Building Incentive Program (CBIP) performance path approach. EE4 CBIP is offered by Natural Resources Canada's Office of Energy Efficiency to building owners and developers for the design and construction of new commercial and institutional buildings that use 25% less energy than similar buildings built to the requirements of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB). EE4 CBIP may also be used to perform non-compliance energy analyses and thus to predict a building's annual energy consumption, and to assess the impact of design changes to the building. Alternatively, EE4 CBIP can be used to determine a building's heating and cooling loads for equipment sizing. EE4 CBIP calculations are based on an approved version of DOE-2.1E. Screen Shots

Keywords

Validation/Testing

N/A

Expertise Required

Basic understanding of Windows. Knowledge of building modeling. Engineering background helpful but not required.

Users

1000

Audience

Mechanical, building, energy engineers and architects working for consulting firms, building owners and/or designers; Building and energy-code verifiers; CBIP application reviewers.

Input

Basic information, envelope components areas and characteristics, characteristics of the building's HVAC, lighting and service water heating systems.

Output

Energy consumption and energy cost of proposed design and CBIP reference building. Summary and detailed compliance reports.

Computer Platform

PC-compatible, Windows NT or Windows 95/98/2000 operating system, IBM 486 or Pentium 75 with at least 16 MB RAM, 40 MB free disk space, SVGA monitor with minimum 800 x 600 resolution.

Programming Language

Borland C++

Strengths

EE4 CBIP automatically generates a reference building to verify compliance to CBIP requirements using the performance path approach. EE4 CBIP can also be used in non-compliance mode to predict a building's annual energy consumption and energy cost. User-friendly interface and on-line help. Includes default libraries of common building plants, systems, construction assemblies and materials, lighting elements, fenestration and operating schedules. Available in English and French.

Weaknesses

Not all HVAC systems and plant configurations can be modelled directly with EE4 CBIP and a detailed DOE-2 simulation is required.
