Detailed Forecast Discussion
Current Conditions: A cold front has passed through the region, but it will stall out along the East coast over the next 12 hours. This will result in enough moisture remaining in the area to bring a couple of showers and even a thunderstorm during the afternoon and evening hours over the next couple of days. Plenty of cloud cover is keeping ozone levels in check to the good range today, and ozone will continue to be on the good side into tomorrow and perhaps Friday as well. A low amount of mixing has kept fine particulate in the moderate range. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a couple of showers or even a thunderstorm. Fine particles will remain in the moderate zone. *** Thursday's forecast: Thursday, a wave of low pressure will move along the stalled-out front and bring another round of rain and possible thunderstorm activity, mainly in the afternoon. High temperatures will be held to near 80 with clouds limiting ozone formation. Fine particulate will remain in the upper good range. *** Extended outlook: High pressure should build in enough Friday and Saturday to where the chances for afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms should be less. Still, ozone should not go out of the upper good range, with fine particulate matter perhaps climbing into the moderate range. The high should hang on early next week to keep things mainly dry with the chance ozone levels being elevated to the moderate range. Temperatures over the next 7-10 days should be close to normal levels for mid-August.---McAuliffe
