ESPA distance learning event will address bus rapid transit
Easter Seals Project ACTION will host a free audio conference, "New Frontiers in Accessibility: Building Accessibility into Bus Rapid Transit Design," from 2-3 p.m. EDT Tuesday, June 23. The presenter will be Terry Parker, accessible services manager for Lane Transit District in Eugene, Ore. Mark your calendar for this opportunity; registration will open soon.

The Easter Seals Transportation Group invites travel trainers and those having an interest in travel training to join our new online, interactive Global Travel Training Community. The GTTC is an accessible Web-based community to facilitate collaboration and the sharing of knowledge among the travel training community. NEW from Project ACTION: A resource for secondary school educators
Easter Seals Project ACTION presents a new resource titled, "Travel Training for Student Success: The Route to Achieving Post-Secondary Student Outcomes." An introduction, booklet, slide shows, questionnaire, and linked ESPA Clearinghouse resources contribute to the nation's efforts to support young adults' needs for public transportation through travel training.

Stimulus package offers opportunities for accessible transportation
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Obama, has important implications for accessible transportation. A brief document on mobility management as it relates to the package has been compiled by the Community Transportation Association of America with assistance from Easter Seals Project ACTION and the American Public Transportation Association.

Audio conference will be useful to senior transportation programs
The National Center on Senior Transportation has scheduled its next free distance learning event from 2-3 p.m. EDT Thursday, May 28. The topic is "Senior Transportation Programs: Raising Revenue and Awareness" and will feature Barbara Huston, a co-founder of Partners in Care, and Katherine Freund, who created ITNAmerica. Register through the linked announcement to obtain dial-in information; participation is by telephone. Registration is open until May 21.

Federal Transit Administration announces NFP updates
The FTA has released two updates related to the New Freedom Program (5317): "A Notice of Policy Statement for Eligible New Freedom Activities," and "Questions and Answers Regarding the New Freedom, JARC, and Section 5310 Program." The New Freedom formula grant program aims to provide additional tools to overcome existing barriers that Americans with disabilities face as they pursue integration into the work force and full participation in society. Lack of adequate transportation is a problem, and the the New Freedom formula grant program seeks to reduce barriers to transportation services and expand the transportation mobility options available to people with disabilities beyond the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990. 

APTA announces plans for 2009 rail conference
The American Public Transportation Association's 2009 Rail Conference will be June 14-17 in Chicago, Ill. Topics will include Capital Projects; Commuter, High Speed and Inter City Rail; Operations; Planning, Sustainability & Finance; and Safety & Security. Association of Travel Instruction slates 9th annual conference
Registration is under way for ATI's 2009 conference scheduled for July 31-Aug. 2 in St. Louis. A preliminary agenda is available, and individuals and organizations can register for the conference and/or renew memberships online as well.

Call for abstracts issued for TRANSED 2010
The 12th International Conference on Mobility and Transport for Elderly and Disabled Persons (TRANSED 2010) will take place in Hong Kong June 2-4, 2010. Held every three years in different countries, TRANSED conferences are milestone events in the field of accessible transportation. They give delegates from around the world an opportunity to share scientific and policy advances in the pursuit of mobility and access for all. The Call for abstracts is now open. Deadline: June 1, 2009.
