Energy

Rising energy prices are taking their toll on American families across the country.  Although the prices of oil and gasoline have fallen recently, we still have an energy crisis.

Our energy policy prohibits exploration and production which threatens our economy and our national security.  Congress must allow domestic production, encourage conservation, and increase development of renewables and alternatives.

Increasing Domestic Energy Production:

    • Allow access to areas containing abundant sources of energy such as the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS), the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR), and the Mountain West for exploration and development.
    • Allow the oil and gas industry to invest in refinery construction through tax incentives.
    • Streamline the permitting process to expedite construction of new plants.
    • Reform tort laws so that American energy production is not restricted by environmentalist lawsuits.
    • Nuclear energy is a cost effective source for producing electricity with zero emissions. We must build new reactors and adopt the French model of recycling nuclear fuel.
    • Coal is an abundant and reliable American source of energy. Clean coal technology is vital for improving electricity generation, and we must continue investing in this technology.

Promoting Conservation and Efficiency:

    • Provide research tax credits for research and development of new and improved energy efficient products.
    • Provide tax incentives for the construction of energy efficient buildings to lower consumption rates.
    • Provide tax credits for improving energy efficiency on existing homes.

Encouraging the Development of Alternative Energy Sources:

    • Increase investments in research, development, and deployment of alternative energy sources.
    • Limit regulation of energy markets so that prices are set by supply and demand, and new technologies can find their way to the marketplace.
