Biweekly FAA Aviation News update — Special EAA AirVenture ® Edition

Check it Out: FAASafety.gov/WINGS Help Center at EAA AirVenture

The FAASTeam will operate a special help center at this year’s EAA AirVenture, staffed by the FAASTeam webmaster and others. The center will be equipped with computer stations to provide demonstrations and to assist with one-on-one discussions. Be sure and ask for a demonstration of the new WINGS features, which were based on your feedback. The help center, to be staffed all day / every day, will be in the FAASTeam booth at the FAASafetyCenter. Also, be sure to catch Bryan Neville’s presentation at the FAASafetyCenter titled “We Listened! WINGS is Getting Better” to learn about the WINGS enhancements. The presentation will be in the forum area on Tuesday, July 28, at 11:30 am. See you there!

Special Reminder – Come Meet the New FAA Administrator at AirVenture

The FAA Administrator Forum, with Administrator Randy Babbitt, will be held on Thursday, July 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at the Honda Forums Mainstage.

National GA Award Winners to be Honored at EAA AirVenture

They represent the best in their fields of flight instruction, aviation maintenance, avionics, and safety. On Wednesday evening, July 29, at Oshkosh’s Theater in the Woods, these dedicated leaders of aviation safety and education will receive their well-deserved recognition. Of course, we’re talking about the 2009 General Aviation Award winners:  Kent Lewis, FAASTeam Representative of the Year; Arlynn McMahon, Flight Instructor of the Year; Alfred “Lucky” Louque, Aviation Maintenance Technician of the Year; and Jerry Stooksbury, Avionics Technician of the Year. FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt will present these awards, marking the 45th anniversary of the GA Awards.

To learn more about this year’s award winners, see page 32 in the July/Aug 2009 issue of FAA Aviation News - http://www.faa.gov/news/aviation_news/ . You can also find Arlynn McMahon’s article “Making it Fun – Tips for Training Today’s Pilots,” on page eight of the same issue.

FAA Production Studios Broadcasts Interview with EAA Founder Paul Poberezny

What better way to gear up for AirVenture than by watching an interview with EAA founder Paul Poberezny, the person responsible for starting this annual aviation celebration. On July 15, 2009, FAA Production Studios broadcast an interview online with Poberezny from the rooftop of the FAANationalResourceCenter at the 2009 Sun ’n Fun Fly-In. The broadcast also included an interview with Peggy Chabrian, President of Women in Aviation International. The interview will broadcast again live on Aug. 3, but should be available as a Windows media video (WMV) file and video podcast for download soon. Check the Videos On Demand section of www.faaproductionstudios.com to see a list of all available videos.
