Joe’s Committees

Congressman Crowley currently serves on two of the House of Representatives’ most important and powerful committees – the House Committee on Ways and Means and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Committee on Ways and Means

The Committee on Ways and Means is one of the oldest committees in Congress, and Congressman Crowley is the 79th New Yorker to serve on the panel. The Ways and Means Committee is responsible for overseeing the nation’s tax policies – providing it with a broad range of jurisdiction over a variety of issues, such as tax credits to promote the use of renewable energy technologies, to encourage parents to save for their children’s college tuition, and to bolster individuals’ contributions to their retirement savings. The Committee also oversees Social Security, Medicare, and our nation’s policies on trade, foster care, and unemployment insurance.

On the Ways and Means Committee, Congressman Crowley serves on two subcommittees – the Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures and the Subcommittee on Social Security.

Committee on Foreign Affairs

The Committee on Foreign Affairs is responsible for all legislation and investigations dealing with international relations. This can include declarations of war, foreign loans, export controls such as nonproliferation of nuclear technology, international economic and business policy, and international organizations such as the United Nations.

On the Foreign Affairs Committee, Congressman Crowley is a member of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, as well as the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere.
