Use Constraints
 
Definition
The <Use_Constraints> field allows the author to describe how the data may or may not be used after access is granted to assure the protection of privacy or intellectual property.  This includes any special restrictions, legal prerequisites, terms and conditions, and/or limitations on using the data set.  Data providers may request acknowledgement of the data from users and claim no responsibility for quality and completeness of data.
 
Syntax

<Use_Constraints>text</Use_Constraints>

  • Multiple lines of text are permitted. Characters may be selected from the UTF-8 character set.
 
Usage
  • The <Use_Constraints> field is highly recommended and may not be repeated.
  • Text should be single spaced with blank lines separating paragraphs.
 
Example

<Use_Constraints>
Acknowledge the use of specific records from contributing databases in the form appearing in the ‘Citation’ field thereof (if any); and acknowledge the use of the OBIS facility.

For information purposes, email to obissupport at marine.rutgers.edu the full citation of any publication made (printed or electronic) that cites OBIS or any constituent part.

Recognize the limitations of data in OBIS.
