Healthcare

The Census Bureau reported that nearly 45 million Americans, including more than 1 million Marylanders, were without any form of health insurance in 2003. In its Current Population Survey, during the same year, the Bureau reported the largest increase in the number of uninsured people in the past decade - an increase of 14.6 percent, or 2.4 million people, over 2002. Congressman Hoyer is fighting to make healthcare more affordable for all Americans, and is also fighting to protect funding for Medicaid, so that health care is accessible to more Americans.

Medicare has proven its success over the years by providing 40 million seniors with essential health benefits. Democrats fought to create Medicare in 1965, and the program has been critical to seniors’ health ever since. And now Congressman Hoyer is fighting for affordable, guaranteed prescription drug coverage under Medicare that all seniors can count on regardless of where they live.

Talking Numbers Behind Health Care Reform on MSNBC

I think the American public has been watching a part of the debate both in the Senate and the House and they see a lot of different opinions. But I think they understand and that poll reflects it that they want a health care reform bill. 94% of them you say are concerned that we won't get the job done. I want to assure them we're going to get the job done. And as you said, a little earlier, we made significant progress last night. The Energy and Commerce Committee is back at the table marking up their bill...
