As Chairman of the Aviation Operations, Safety and Security Subcommittee of the Senate Commerce Committee, Senator Dorgan is working to keep passengers safe as they fly the nation's skies. Dorgan is focusing on transforming and modernizing the outdated air traffic control system, which will improve safety, efficiency and reliability.

He is also pushing to improve air transportation safety and Federal Aviation Administration safety oversight, and has conducted hearings to investigate the safety of regional carriers to ensure there really is one level of safety for commercial carriers as required by law.

Coming from a rural state that relies on commercial and general aviation, Senator Dorgan is also committed to supporting the Essential Air Service program that enables commercial service at the Dickinson, Jamestown and Devils Lake airports in North Dakota and many communities across the country.  He's working to improve airport infrastructure through the Airport Improvement Program, and believes we must invest in the security of our nation's airports. Dorgan continues to fight for more reasonable fares offered by our nation's air carriers, and to stop the excess speculation in the energy market that pushes oil prices to levels that hamper the airlines' ability to deliver quality service at affordable prices.
