Senator Lautenberg is always looking out for veterans in New Jersey and across the nation. As a veteran, he realizes it can be stressful when dealing with federal agencies and there are certain areas in which Senator Lautenberg can lend a hand to N.J. veterans. These include:
securing military records and medals;
assisting with claims for compensation and pensions;
helping to navigate the New Jersey VA Health Care system;
providing information on educational benefits and home loans; and
providing information on advocacy organizations and other various programs.
Standing Up for Veterans
Senator Lautenberg co-wrote the law that required the Bush Administration to reimburse families who purchased body armor and other equipment for their loved ones serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In the 110th Congress he authored bi-partisan legislation that would cap enrollment fees, deductibles and pharmacy co-pays for service members and retirees. He has already secured a one-year moratorium on these fee increases for the past three fiscal years and will continue to seek a permanent fix.
Senator Lautenberg was also one the prinicipal co-sponsors of a new G.I. bill, so all veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan can now receive full educational benefits upon their return home. Last September, Congress passed a provision championed by Lautenberg to provide a monthly bonus to troops affected by “stop loss.”
