University of Hawaii at Hilo Drug Information Center of the Pacific ($1,500,000)

The requested funds will be used for the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy to establish Hawaii's first Drug Information Center

Founded in 2006, the College of Pharmacy is the only pharmacy school in the state of Hawaii and the Pacific Basin. It will graduate its inaugural class in 2011. The mission of the College is to educate pharmacy students and pharmacists, to serve as a catalyst for innovations and discoveries in science and practice, and to improve the quality of patient care. A drug information center dedicated to teaching, research, and service to the community is essential for achieving excellence in all aspects of the College's mission.

Why this is a good use of taxpayer dollars: The primary objectives of this project are to improve access to evidence based drug information; to provide a center for drug policy analysis and consultation; to improve the safe, effective and appropriate use of medications; and to provide a resource for drug benefit information.
