National Institute of JusticeThe National Institute of Justice is the research, development, and evaluation agency of the U.S. Department of Justice and is dedicated to researching crime control and justice issues. NIJ provides objective, independent, evidence-based knowledge and tools to meet the challenges of crime and justice, particularly at the State and local levels.

Office on Violence Against Women—The Office on Violence Against Women handles the Department's legal and policy issues regarding violence against women, coordinates Departmental efforts, provides national and international leadership, and responds to requests for information regarding violence against women.

Bureau of Justice Assistance—The Bureau of Justice Assistance provides leadership and services in grant administration and criminal justice policy development to support State, local, and tribal justice strategies to achieve safer communities.

Office of Community Oriented Policing Services—COPS provides grants to tribal, state, and local law enforcement agencies to hire and train community policing professionals, acquire and deploy cutting-edge crime-fighting technologies, and develop and test innovative policing strategies.

Office for Victims of Crime—The Office for Victims of Crime is committed to enhancing the Nation's capacity to assist crime victims and to providing leadership in changing attitudes, policies, and practices to promote justice and healing for all victims of crime.

Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention—The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) provides national leadership, coordination, and resources to prevent and respond to juvenile delinquency and victimization. OJJDP supports State and community efforts to develop and implement effective and coordinated prevention and intervention programs. It also supports their efforts  to improve the juvenile justice system so that it achieves public safety, holds offenders accountable, and provides treatment and rehabilitative services tailored to the needs of juveniles and their families.
