Funds for Burlington, Centerville Will Help Hire and Retain Three Additional Officers

Washington, Jul 28 - Today, Congressman Dave Loebsack announces over $500,000 in funds for the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) program. Through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Burlington and Centerville will receive funds to hire and retain additional police officers. Congressman Loebsack has been an avid supporter of the COPS program since he has been a Member of Congress, and has worked to ensure that this successful program continues to receive funding.

“The COPS program helps keep our families and communities safe. Enhancing the COPS program, and keeping more police officers employed is a serious priority,” said Congressman Loebsack.  “These funds will go directly to our law enforcement agencies so that they can hire and retain the staff that they need to fight crime while saving and creating jobs for our brave first responders.”

These grants will go directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts. The Burlington police department will be rewarded $337,824 and will be able to hire or retain two additional police officers. The Centerville police department will be rewarded $173,842 and will be able to hire or retain one additional police officer. These funds will cover three years of salaries and benefits.
