Searching for Data

[INVENTORY SEARCH SCREEN]

The Inventory Search window appears when the Web Ordering Tool is accessed. This allows you to search, refine your search, or locate available data before logging in to the tool.

All available Projects, Parameters, and Datasets are displayed in their respective fields.

You may scroll through the listed data sets and make selections, or you can refine your search.

Data set searches can be narrowed by selecting entries from the "Project" and/or "Parameter fields". Data sets matching your search criteria will be shown in the "Datasets" field, which also displays the number of files available for each data set.

Project and parameter searches can also be refined by selecting a time range. Only data sets that match the chosen time range for the selected projects and parameters will be returned.

Data sets may be selected directly from the "Datasets" field, or you may choose to restrict the number of data sets shown by selecting entries in the "Projects" and/or "Parameters" fields.

To select projects and parameters, click to highlight your choices, then press the Refine button. To clear your choices and return all fields to the default, press the Reset button.

The "Datasets" field displays data set names and the number of files available for that data set. Data sets may be chosen by clicking to highlight your choices.

Time Ranges:

A file search by time range can be done by entering the start and end date in the corresponding text entry fields. The date format is MM/DD/YYYY, and is optional. If you do not enter a time range, you will get all the files for the data set(s) selected.

Get Info:

You can view the data set information before ordering the data by clicking the selected data sets in the "Data Sets" field, then pressing the Get Info button. The data set information will be displayed in the "Data Set Information" frame of the Inventory Search window.

Clear Form:

If you wish to clear selections made in the "Datasets" field and "Time Ranges" field, press the Clear Form button.

Get Results:

Select the desired data sets by clicking on each one individually, or choose multiple data sets by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking. To get a list of files for the selected data sets, press the Get Results button. A list of available files will be shown on the Search Results screen.

Search Results:

[SEARCH RESULTS SCREEN]

Files are grouped by data set, and provide the File Name, File Sizes for Uncompressed and Unix compressed data, Start-Time and End-Time, Max/Min-Latitude and Max/Min-Longtitude, and whether or not a Browse image is available. Information for HDF browse images is available on our Data Manipulation Software page.

Select individual files by checking the box next to the file name, or select all the listed data sets by checking the Select ALL button. Pressing the Clear Selections button will clear the checked file boxes.

If you have not already logged in or registered, you will be prompted to click the Login button. A Login window will be opened, and after you have logged in or registered, click the Submit button to return to your Search Results screen.

Logging into the system

Existing User:

If you are an existing user, you can log into the system by pressing the Login button located at the top, right-hand corner of the Inventory Search frame. The Login frame will appear at the bottom of the Inventory Search frame.

[LOGIN SCREEN]

If you need to update your Login profile (e.g., to change your address, phone number, etc.), enter your Login ID and password and press the Update Info button. An Update User Information window will appear with your current user information. You can update the information as desired and press the Update button to update your profile. All required items are highlighted in boldface and must have an entry. If you wish to leave the profile unchanged, press the Cancel button.

To clear the Login ID and/or password fields, press the Clear button.

New User:

To create a user account on the Langley Web Ordering Tool, press the New User button located at the top, right-hand corner of the Inventory Search frame. A User Registration Information window will be opened.

After the Submit button is pressed, a new window will show the information entered. Your Login ID is automatically generated and displayed in the "Select Password" field. A new window will display your Login ID. Press the Back to Login Page button to return to the Inventory Search screen. You will then need to log in.

You can always switch to the Java version after you log in to the system, but each version has its own login authentication and you will have to log in again.

Ordering Data

After you have logged in to the system and your search results screen has reappeared, you may now select the download options.

[ORDER SCREEN]

You may opt to have read software and file metadata files included with your data order. Select the No or Yes buttons accordingly.

The "Data Format" radio buttons allow you to choose between uncompressed and compressed format. To receive data in uncompressed form, select the Uncompressed button. To receive the data in Unix compressed form, select the Unix Compressed button. Data ordered via the Web or via FTP can be downloaded in either Uncompressed mode or in UNIX Compressed mode. Data written to media tape (in either Uncompressed mode or in Unix Compressed mode) is in Unix TAR format.

The Spatial Subsetting feature is not currently available.

To place your order, you will need to confirm your e-mail address in the Order Email field.

Click on the Select Order Type drop down box to choose the method of receiving data. Data may be downloaded via the Web or via FTP. Simply select the appropriate button to begin the download process.

Alternatively, you can receive the data on media tapes. If you decide to order media tapes, select the type of tape desired by clicking the Media Type drop-down box, and then select the Media Order Request button. The media tapes supported are 4mm 2Gb (90m), 8mm 2Gb (8200), 8mm 5Gb (8500) and 8mm 7Gb (8500c).

Please be aware that current server configuration does not allow files with file sizes that exceed 512 Mb to be downloaded via the Web. For those files that exceed the size limit, request the data via FTP or Media order instead.

When you have specified your Order Type, press the Submit Order button. You will see a new screen, acknowledging that your order was successfully placed. Your method of receiving data, the order number, and the ordered items will be listed as shown below. If your order is by media, you will be asked to check or verify your shipping address. Please note that media orders must contain a street address and not a post office box number.

If you wish to place more orders, press the "Start New Search" button. You will be returned to the Search Inventory main page.
