NASA Links

The Earth Observatory
Visit the highly informative and educational Earth Observatory.  It provides feature articles, images, experiments, and resources for the classroom and the Media.

Teaching Earth Science
Contains various education-related links such as the Earth Explorers Series, Earth Science Education Catalog, Earth Science Education Update, etc.

NASA's Classroom of the Future
The Classroom of the Future (COTF) Program at Wheeling Jesuit University serves as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's (NASA's) premier research and development center for educational technologies and provides technology-based tools and resources to K-12 schools.

The Space Place
The Space Place is a NASA educational outreach program that brings the excitement and wonder of space to children and adults of every age and educational background. Fun and original projects and activities provide a delightful introduction to basic space science and technology concepts, as well as NASA's visionary programs and missions.

Multimedia for the Classroom
NASA-developed CD-ROMs, video tapes, and slide shows are available to educators for a minimal fee. In this area you will find links to on-line catalogs and web sites highlighting these products.

NASA Connect
NASA CONNECT is an annual series of FREE integrated mathematics, science, and technology instructional distance learning programs for students in grades 6-8. Each program has three components: (1) a 30-minute television broadcast, which can be viewed live or taped for later use; (2) an interactive web activity which provides educators an opportunity to use technology in the classroom setting; and (3) a lesson guide describing a hands-on activity. These three components are designed as an integrated instructional package.

TeachEarth.com
Contains a variety of resources and programs for teaching and learning about Earth system science.

Earth Science Education Catalog
This catalog provides information on NASA-sponsored Earth science education programs and resources for elementary through college levels.

The CERES S'COOL Project
S'COOL - Students' Cloud Observations On-Line - is a project which involves school children in real science. They provide ground truth measurements to assist in the validation of the CERES instrument. They can also compare the surface - and space-based observations to learn more about clouds and climate.

NASA GISS Institute on Climate and Planets
The Institute on Climate and Planets is a research, science education, and minority outreach program at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The ICP involves pre-college and undergraduate students in NASA climate and planetary investigations in collaboration with teachers and faculty from their schools and colleges, and GISS research scientists.

The Remote Sensing Tutorial
This is a tutorial approach to learning about the role of space science and technology in monitoring the Earth's surface and atmosphere.

The Adventure of Echo the Bat
The Adventure of Echo the Bat is a program with both online and classroom components. It teaches "understanding light" and the "electromagnetic spectrum" as a foundation for Remote Sensing.

Landsat in the Classroom
A collection of Landsat-based classroom activities for grades K-12.

Earth Observing System (EOS) Education Project
The Earth Observing System (EOS) Education Project disseminates Earth system science imagery and supportive curriculum to the global kindergarten through undergraduate level (K-16) education community. The EOS Education Project provides Internet-based and on-site training for the K-16 education community in the interpretation, utilization and relevancy of EOS mission imagery. We investigate how EOS information can enhance existing interdisciplinary curriculums that explore the diverse and changing landscapes of the world.

PUMAS -- Practical Uses of Math And Science
PUMAS is an on-line journal, a web-based collection of examples aimed at giving K-12 teachers insights into how the math and science they teach can be used in everyday life. Scientists contribute their expertise by writing brief examples, which may be activities, anecdotes, descriptions of "neat ideas," formal exercises, puzzles, or demonstrations. PUMAS offers researchers a way to make a substantial contribution to pre-college education with a relatively small investment of time and effort, and at the same time, to get a peer-reviewed science education journal article published on the web.
