Detailed Forecast Discussion |
Today, an upper-level ridge of high pressure over the Upper Midwest will reduce vertical mixing and dispersion. In addition, weak surface high pressure over the region will lead to light winds, causing pollutants to build up. These weather conditions will lead to Moderate AQI levels in southeastern Minnesota. Tomorrow, moderate south-southeasterly winds ahead of low pressure developing over the central Plains will transport moisture and particles into the region, keeping AQI levels Moderate.\n\nFriday and Saturday, surface and upper-level high pressure will lead to reduced mixing, very warm temperatures, and partly to mostly sunny skies in the Rochester area, enhancing the formation of ozone. However, moderate to strong southerly winds will disperse some pollutants. These weather conditions, combined with regional particle carryover from previous days, will result in Moderate AQI levels on both days. Sunday, an approaching cold front will produce mostly cloudy skies, limiting ozone formation. However, moderate southerly winds will transport moisture and particles into the region, leading to Moderate AQI levels. Monday, moderate westerly winds behind a departing cold front will usher clean, dry air into southeastern Minnesota, lowering AQI levels to Good. |
