Transportation and Infrastructure
Scott Garrett has been very active on multiple issues relating to transportation and infrastructure, particularly with regard to New Jersey transit and the FAA airspace redesign program.
In October of 2008, Garrett joined 46 colleagues in a bi-partisan initiative calling on House leadership to enact legislation regarding airspace allocation at New York and New Jersey airports. This legislation would prohibit the Department of Transportation (DOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from implementing its final rules governing the allocation of airspace at New York’s Kennedy and LaGuardia Airports, and New Jersey’s Newark Liberty International Airport.
Most recently, on April 2, 2009, Garrett sent a joint letter with Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ11) encouraging Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood to review and evaluate the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airspace Redesign Plan. In this letter, Garrett warns that this plan has the potential to adversely affect the quality of life of his constituents. He explains, “Serious questions remain about what effect the implementation of airspace redesign will have on our constituents with respect to environmental quality and aircraft noise.”
