University of New Orleans Pontchartrain Lecture in Environmental Sciences

Dr. Robert Nicholls of the University of Southampton, UK, will present the
Pontchartrain Lecture in Environmental Sciences at the University of New
Orleans on Thursday March 12th. The lecture is entitled "Impacts,
Adaptation, and Vulnerability to Sea-Level Rise: A Challenge for Coming
Decades!" and will be presented at 4 p.m. in Room 137 of Kirschman Hall on
the UNO Lakefront Campus.

Dr. Nicholls is Professor of Coastal Engineering at the University of
Southampton. His research concerns long-term coastal engineering and
management, especially given climate change and sea-level rise. He has been
involved in major assessments, including lead authorship of five chapters in
the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) assessments, from 1996
to 2007; most recently "Coastal Systems and Low-Lying Areas" published in
the IPCC Fourth Assessment Report (2007). He contributed to the influential
Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change, the EU Green Paper on
Adaptation and he leads the coastal research program in the influential
Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.

The lecture is free and open to all members of the university community and
the public. Please contact Denise Reed (djreed@uno.edu) for more
