Volunteers Needed for the Derelict Crab Trap Clean Up in Terrebonne Bay

Louisiana's second derelict crab trap clean up in Terrebonne Bay will be
held over a 16-day period from 6:00 a.m. on March 5 through 6:00 a.m. March
20, 2005. LUMCON's DeFelice Marine Center is serving as a base of
operations for the volunteer effort. The two main volunteer days are
Saturday, March 5 and Saturday, March 12. Two small vessels are reserved
for both days. Volunteers are needed to drive the boats, go out on the
boats to retrieve the traps, and handle land based activities by working
side by side with La. Wildlife and Fisheries employees. To learn more visit

Christmas Tree Recycling Project Needs Volunteers

The City of New Orleans is conducting its annual Christmas tree recycling
project this March. If anyone would like to volunteer to help with the
placement of Christmas trees into Bayou Sauvage, please call Heather
Szapary, consultant for the Mayor's Office of Environmental Affairs Coastal
Program at (504) 658-4071. Volunteers will be needed on March 29 and/or 30
to assist the Louisiana Army National Guard and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service.
