John R. Sellers, Manuscript Division Historical Specialist, Civil War & Reconstruction, provided general oversight for the online collection, Washington during the Civil War: The Diary of Horatio Nelson Taft, 1861-1865. He participated in the acquisition of the diary, provided guidance about its content, and worked with Library of Congress National Digital Library staff in the planning and completion of project work. Additionally, he supervised the transcription of the diary. He wrote the special presentation, "The Washington Diary of Horatio Nelson Taft."

Various National Digital Library Program (NDLP) staff members made significant contributions to the project throughout planning and production. Margaret Alessi coordinated the latter stages of production of the scanning project, wrote contextual materials for the Web site, provided guidance during image quality review, and, working with Library attorneys, secured copyright permission. Jan Lancaster transcribed all three volumes of the diary and performed a significant amount of research. Laura Graham converted the transcriptions to SGML. Laura Gottesman and Chris Pohlhaus performed image quality review. Elizabeth Madden was responsible for the creation of a production database. Jurretta Jordan Heckscher and Emily Lind Baker edited the framework materials. Andrea Dillon was responsible for the Web page design and final production.

In Information Technology Services (ITS), Barak Stussman was responsible for the programming of indexing and the display of the documents.
