Michigan Small Business Assistance
Several free counseling and training programs are available to help you get started and expand your small business. These services cover all aspects of starting and running a business, from getting a loan to developing business plans and marketing strategies.
There are also a number of local small business centers sponsored or partially funded by SBA that help women and minorities with start-up counseling and financial assistance:
- Michigan Minority Business Development Center
Provides free business consulting services and financial management
advice to minority-owned businesses in the state. Supported by the U.S.
Department of Commerce.
- Cornerstone Alliance
Women's Business Center provides individual business consulting and
access to Small Business Administration (SBA) programs and services.
- Detroit Entrepreneurship Institute, Inc.
A non profit corporation that has been assisting with business and economic development since 1990.
- Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women
GROW is partially funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration's
Office of Women Business Ownership (OWBO), the only office in the
federal government established to help women become full partners in
economic development through small business ownership.
SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives Association), a non-profit organization and SBA partner, offers free mentoring, business counseling and low-cost workshops.
